Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start to the summer tourist season and officials say their upcoming season for Traverse City looks good.
While Memorial Day may be a busy weekend, the Convention and Visitors Bureau says the tourist season is typically the busiest during July and August.
Mike Norton, of the Visitor's Bureau, said things are already looking better this year because the chilly weather hasn't kept the tourists away.
"Advance bookings are actually up for this year and that's not an easy thing to do because for the last 2 years we've been at 100% occupancy in Traverse City in July and August," Norton said.
Norton says with more than 2 million tourists visiting Traverse City each year they bring in about $1 billion for the local economy.
