Angelina Jolie opts for double mastectomy after gene test
Actress Angelina Jolie said she underwent a double mastectomy earlier this year after learning she carries a gene that gives her an 87 percent chance of getting breast cancer.
Jolie wrote in today's New York Times that between February and April she underwent surgical procedures to remove both breasts.
Jolie said she thought of her mother dying of breast cancer at age 56.
The 37-year-old said she wrote the article in hope that other women can benefit from her experience.
