A fire in an elevator shaft forced the partial evacuation of Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont.
WOOD TV reports the third floor was evacuated Wednesday morning. Rescue crews escorted 19 patients to the emergency wing of the building around 4:30 a.m. while the cause of the smoke was investigated.
The evacuation was lifted around 5:20 a.m.
The fire started in a motor in the elevator, and everything was contained in the elevator system. There were no flames, just smoke, and there was no damage to the facility, and nobody was injured.
