Physician volunteers needed at free clinic

Volunteer physicians are in short supply at The Stehouwer Free Clinic.

Volunteer physicians are in short supply at a Cadillac organization that serves thousands of people across northern Michigan.

The Stehouwer Free Clinic provides health care and prescriptions for the under-insured.

The clinic is concerned that patient's needs are not going to be met if help is not found.

The clinic saw more than 6,000 individual visits last year, and serve 2,000 people on a regular basis.

The executive director is looking for six additional volunteer physicians on top of three physicians who regularly treat patients.

â??We generally like to have a clinic once a week, however our physician volunteer pool has decreased over the last 10 months. Most of our physician volunteers are very busy with their own private practices,â?? said Michelle Payne, Stehouwer Free Clinic Executive Director.

The clinic serves people in Wexford, Missaukee, Osceola and parts of Lake counties.
