Wastewater treatment plant getting upgrades after 42 years

The plant discharges EPA-acceptable levels of wastewater into Lake Michigan.

Plans to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant in Charlevoix are moving forward.

The Charlevoix City Council accepted an $8.5 million bid to make improvements to the plant Monday night.

The bid is nearly $2 million less than the original estimate.

The plant discharges EPA-acceptable levels of wastewater into Lake Michigan. It hasn't been updated since 1972.

Construction is scheduled to begin sometime this fall.
