An 11-year-old Alba boy was killed in an ORV crash while riding with his father and brother in Kalkaska Township.
According to the Kalkaska County Sheriff, the crash occurred Sunday afternoon about half a mile north of County Road 612 on state-owned land.
The Sheriff reported that Tyler Sabastian Antaya was riding with his father and friend when he lost control of the ORV, left the two-track and hit several trees. The Sheriff's Department originally reported that the 11-year-old friend was Tyler's twin brother, but that is not the case. Officials say the friend is the same age and has the same date of birth as Tyler, but that the two are not related.
The Sheriff said Antaya was wearing a helmet, but did suffer head injuries.
Antaya was a student at Mancelona Middle School, and Sheriff Israel reports the schools have set up counseling for students. Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska is handling the service. Details have not yet been released.
The crash will continue to be investigated.
