A 23-year-old man sustained traumatic injuries after an accident in Ogemaw County. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The Michigan State Police West Branch Post is investigating an Ogemaw County accident on M-33 that left a 23-year-old Fenton, Mich. man with traumatic injuries Saturday.

The one-vehicle accident occurred around 11:30-p.m. on M-33 north of Engel Road. Police believe the man, Jeffrey Maxwell, was traveling northbound when he went off of the snowy road and struck a large tree nearly head-on. Maxwell was the only person in the vehicle and there was no evidence of braking.

Ogemaw County EMS transported Maxwell to West Branch Regional Medical Center for his injuries. A medical helicopter was requested, but was unable to fly because of the weather. Maxwell has since been transferred to McLaren Hospital in Flint, Mich. for additional treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

MSP is still investigating the accident. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor and Maxwell was wearing a seatbelt.
