The Big Rapids community is reaching out to 24 families left homeless following a fire at Village Green Apartments.
Crews were called to the apartment building at 1304 Catherine Street just after 6 p.m. Thursday. It took several hours to get the fire under control.
All 24 apartments were damaged by the fire, smoke and water.
No one was hurt. The cause is still under investigation.
The American Red Cross is helping the families displaced by the fire with immediate needs. The Salvation Army in Big Rapids is also gathering donations from the community to help families with clothing and household items.
