A telecommunications outage has knocked out 911 services in several northern Michigan counties.

Counties affected include Alpena, Alcona, Presque Isle, Oscoda, Otsego and Montmorency.

Anyone in an emergency situation is asked to go to a local fire or police building for assistance.

Crews are on site working on the issue. They say it stems from the fact that a T1 carrier line is down.

Emergency officials expect service to be restored in the next few hours.

A cause has not yet been determined.
