      Assault on Northwestern Michigan College campus sends one person to hospital

      Traverse City Police are investigating an assault that happened Friday night on the campus of Northwestern Michigan College.

      Officers say a 35-year-old African-American man from Indianapolis visiting an on-campus apartment was jumped by three men Friday around 8:30pm.

      The man told police he was assaulted inside the laundry room at the campus apartments after going out to his car.

      The victim was bleeding from the head and complained of a rib injury. He was taken to Munson Medical Center where he was treated. He is now in fair condition at the hospital.

      The victim's identity has not been released and no arrests have been made.

      The victim described the suspects as Native American and said one was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.

      An email was sent to the NMC community Saturday morning asking for help in the investigation.
