The Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) delayed the next toll increase for the Mackinac Bridge to at least two more years on Friday.
This delay is due to improved financial projections and maintenance work that extends the service life of the bridge.
"The postponement of toll increases is really a testament to the remarkable work the employees of the Authority have done in maintaining the bridge," says MBA Board Chair William H. Gnodtke. "Those efficiencies, paired with increased revenues and an unrivaled maintenance program, put our operation on soild financial and structural footing."
The decision was made at the MBA board's regular meeting at the Mackinac Island's City Hall.
The MBA voted in 2013 to keep the 2012 toll rates for 2014 at the $4 per-trip for passenger vehicles.
According to the MBA, the next toll rate increase is scheduled for 2016. For more information about the Mackinac Bridge toll rates visit www.mackinacbridge.org.
