Bad timing lands suspected counterfeiter in jail

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department say's a 50 year old Idaho man was arrested after trying to pass a counterfeit bill at an area business Monday.

According to the Sheriff's Department the suspect was trying to buy a low purchase item with a $20 dollar counterfeit bill at Brown's Lumber on South Airport Road when a Traverse City police officer walked in.

A short time later a store employee noticed the bill may be fake and told the officer.

The officer, Captain Brian Heffner of the Traverse City Police Department, got in his car, located the subject in his vehicle and pulled him over.

Armed with a search warrant the Sheriff's Department says they found six counterfeit bills of various denominations, a printer and a small amount of methamphetamine.

The suspect who is facing several charges is expected to be in court later this week.
