Bank robbery suspects charged and held on high bond

Clinton Cole, 57 of Harrison and Ruth Loomis, 56 of Cadillac were charged Monday in Clare County District Court after being arrested for armed robbery on Friday.

Clinton Cole was charged with Robbery-Armed; Weapons-Felony Firearm & Weapons-Firearm Possession by Felon; and Habitual Offender 4th Offense Notice. He is being held on $1,000,000 bond.

Ruth Loomis was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Robbery-Armed; Robbery-Armed (Aid & Bet); and Habitual Offender-3rd Offense Notice. She is being held on $500,000 bond.

According to the Clare County Sheriff's Office, the first robbery happened around 1:45 p.m. Friday at the Chemical Bank in Harrison. It was reported that the suspect pulled out a handgun and threatened to shoot the children at the local school if he wasn't given money..

Sheriff's deputies put the schools and government buildings on lockdown.

Then around 4 p.m., there was a second armed robbery at the Chemical Bank in Hayes Township, just north of Harrison. Witnesses described the same suspect as the first robbery. Sheriff's deputies chased the suspect's vehicle north on Clare Avenue from Hampton Road.

Cole and Loomis were both taken into custody and an undetermined amount of cash was recovered.

During the investigation Deputies were advised that a similar situation may have occurred in the Cadillac. It is not know if all robberies were related.
