Beach advisory lifted after treated sewage spilled into Boardman Lake
The Grand Traverse County Health Department released on Friday that the water samples from Clinch Park, Bryant Park as well as Acme Bayside Park have returned to a safe levels, allowing full body contact.
The closure was caused by an equipment failure at the Traverse City regional Sewage Treatment Facility on Wednesday. About 42 hundred gallons of sludge spilled out from the plant after a pump failed and about 20 gallons made it into Boardman Lake.
As a precautionary measure, the north part of Boardman Lake, the lower part of Boardman River, as well as Clinch Park to Bryant Park were closed on Thursday.
The Grand Traverse County Health Department did say that the drinking water was not affected by the spill.
