Benzie County gets new drug to treat overdoses
The Benzie County Sheriff's Department will soon become Michigan's first law enforcement agency to implement a new program that helps treat drug overdoses.
Each first responder vehicle will have a drug called Narcon on hand, which can reverse the effects of an overdose on Opiates and Heroin.
Officers learned how to administer the drug Friday afternoon.
"This is why you get into the job in the first place," Sheriff Ted Schendel said. "It's all about service, it's all about protecting the people."
Sheriff Schendel said that other towns have had a lot of success in reducing overdose deaths with this drug. He hopes Benzie County will see the same decrease.
