One man was killed in a car crash after deputies say he crossed the centerline and hit a tree.

According to the Benzie County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call of a crash on Fewins Road just after 7:30 Monday morning, but authorities believe the crash occurred several hours earlier.

Authorities say Kevin Matthew Hines, 32, of Lake Ann, was driving west on Fewins Road just east of Maple City Highway when he crossed the centerline and crashed into a tree on the south side of the road.

Hines was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Deputies believe speed was a factor in the crash.

      The incident remains under investigation.
