Bicycle tracks lead police to man who broke into party store
A 27-year-old Traverse City man was arrested for breaking into Tilley's Party Store in Traverse City early Friday morning.
According to Traverse City Police, an employee was in the back room of the building completing paperwork when he heard a loud noise coming from the front of the store. When the employee walked to the front he saw a white male, who had removed a screen from the front door, prying on the glass of the door.
Police say when the suspect saw the employee, he took off on foot.
With fresh snow on the ground, police say they were able to track him on foot a few houses away where it appeared he got on a bicycle. They followed the bicycle tracks for about 1.5 miles where they found the suspect near the intersection of Carter Road and the TART trail crossing.
The suspect was identified by the employee of the store and was arrested.
