      M ost of boating safety tips are common sense, but this time of year it's best to pay attention to the little details that will likely help the most if you find yourself in trouble.

      Deputies say with the water temperatures dipping it is smart to carry blankets , hypothermia kits , and first aid materials.

      W ater temperature s are right around 40 degrees in most northern Michigan lakes .

      A nd while no one is likely swimming , they say anyone drin king on a boat runs a higher risk of falling into the ice cold water.

      A nother thing they are stressing this season is having a spotter for all boating sports like water skiing and tubing.
