Bomb squad responds to Cherry Growers after report of 'suspicious device'

A bomb squad and several other law enforcement agencies were called to Cherry Growers, Inc. in Grawn after a report that a suspicious device was found.

The discovery of what investigators are calling a suspicious device brought the bomb squad to a Grawn company Monday morning.

Grand Traverse Sheriff's Deputies say an employee at Cherry Growers Inc. found the suspicious device at 7:15am, and the company immediately called authorities.

The Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office, Traverse City Police Department, Michigan State Police Bomb Squad and the FBI spent the morning at Cherry Growers Inc.

No one was hurt, but 110 employees working at the time of the incident were evacuated. The question as to how this device got into the building is still unclear.

â??We start gathering information from the resources that we call there out to the scene that day, and then start talking to employees out there and then look at if there's any evidence at the scene,â?? said Lt. Chris Clark from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriffâ??s department is not releasing any details about the device that was found, or its contents.

Cherry Growers Inc. is offering a reward for anyone who has information on this case.
