Bones found during Central Lake dig not human, investigation closed

Rossiter says that the Michigan State Police seized three bones that were found during the dig, and sent pictures of them to Michigan State University to have them identified.

The Antrim County prosecutor says that the investigation regarding a dig in the backyard of a home just outside of Central Lake has been closed.

County Prosecutor James Rossiter says he received a report from the Central Lake Police Department detailing what was found during the October 29 dig.

Central Lake Police said they received information this summer that something went on in the basement of a house that used to be where a trailer is now. The tip said that a baby was buried in that basement in 1978. The house was burned during a controlled burn in 1988 before the trailer was put there.

Rossiter says that the Michigan State Police seized three bones that were found during the dig, and sent pictures of them to Michigan State University to have them identified. MSU reported back that the bones were not human.

Further action under the investigation will not be taken.
