A mother snapping turtle's eggs are a little safter because of the efforts of a conservation-minded Mount Pleasant couple and some boy scouts.
A Boy Scout Troop came in from camping on the river to discover the turtle laying eggs in the parking lot of Buckley's Mountside Canoes on Remus Rd.
Bob and Liz Busch, the owners, say the roped off the area around the eggs to protect them from any damage for the next few months, giving the eggs time to hatch and the turtles time to move on to the nearby Chippewa River.
Michigan Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer praised the couples efforts in the Mount Pleasant Morning Sun.
