Boyne Highlands opens earliest in two decades
EMMET COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A northern Michigan ski resort opened its slopes the earliest in more than two decades.
The snow and cold temperatures have people clipping in and binding up to get out on the runs at Boyne Highlands.
This was the second weekend the resort has been open for skiing.
Mike Chumbler, general manager at Boyne Highlands, said they usually aim to open around Thanksgiving.
"This year we were lucky," Chumbler said. "We are about a month ahead of schedule and that's good news and we are hoping it's a catalyst for a great winter season."
Chumbler said it takes three things to open before Thanksgiving: Temperature, technology and a good team.
While most of the runs aren't open yet, its enough to keep riders coming back.
