T he City of Charlevoix wants to expand its marina to help accommodate larger boats and yachts.
Monday, the city council consider ed four different options and g o t feedback from the public.
I f the council moves forward with an expansion , it would cost thousands of dollars. But city leaders believe it would pay for itself within a few years.
C ity planners first introduced a 150 - foot dock extension back in January that would cost more than $360,000 to build.
S ince then the council has asked for more options.
N ow they have two more plans that are smaller in size and cheaper , and of course they have the option of not making any changes at all.
T here has been a lot of feedback from the community , both positive and negative , but the city is looking to reach a compromise that would benefit the whole community.
"W e think there are strong economic drivers in creating dock space for some of the bigger boats that come into the harbor , but also we want to balance that with preserving the character and the view s on Round Lake," Rob Straebel, Charlevoix City Manager said.
C ity leaders say the expansion would allow more boats to park at the marina on Round Lake.
P lanners say the expansion would help the downtown area , by bringing an economic boost each summer.
