Charlevoix council considers options for marina expansion
Tue, 20 May 2014 00:02:43 GMT —
City of Charlevoix wants to expand its marina to help accommodate larger boats and yachts.
the city council consider
four different options and g
t feedback from the public.
f the council moves forward with an expansion
it would cost thousands of dollars.
But city leaders believe it would pay for itself within a few years.
ity planners first introduced a 150
foot dock extension back in
January that would cost more than $360,000 to build.
ince then the council has asked for more options.
ow they have two more plans that are smaller in size and cheaper
, and of course they have the option of not making any changes at all.
here has been a lot of feedback from the community
both positive and negative
but the city is looking to reach a compromise that would benefit the whole community.
e think there are strong economic drivers in creating dock space for some of the bigger boats that come into the harbor
but also we want to balance that with preserving the character and the view
Round Lake," Rob Straebel, Charlevoix City Manager said.
ity leaders say the expansion would allow more boats to park at the marina on
lanners say the expansion would help the downtown area
an economic boost each summer.
