Charlevoix man sentenced to at least 15 years behind bars
A Charlevoix man was sentenced to 15-40 years in prison for three charges stemming from an attack in August 2013.
According to the Charlevoix County prosecutor, Matthew John Scotton, 45, was convicted of first degree criminal sexual conduct, assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic violence.
The prosecutor said officers from the City of Charlevoix were doing a well-being check on the victim who initially had told them everything was ok.
"The officers, particularly Chief Gerard Doan, knew that something didn't seem right and went back to the residence to investigate further," said prosecutor Allen Telgenhof. "The victim was then separated from the assailant and told police what happened."
