Cheboygan man gets 20-40 years for sexual assault
A Cheboygan man was sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison after being found guilty to two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree.
According to Daryl P. Vizina, Cheboygan County Prosecutor, the jury determined Bernard Brasseur digitally penetrated two young girls who were under the age of 13 in the early 90's. Original reports indicated the victims were relatives.
After the case was charged, two additional girls came forward saying they had also been sexually assaulted by Brasseur, though those acts were not included in the prosecutor due to the statute of limitations.
During the trial, all four girls testified against Brasseur.
"At sentencing, I asked for a 20-year minimum prison term," said Vizina. "The victims are very appreciative that Judge McLennan agreed."
Brasseur was sentenced to a minimum of 20 years and a maximum of 40 years in prison.
