Chippewa County man convicted of manslaughter

Lindsey Hatfield was convicted Thursday of manslaughter in the August 2017 death of John Hanover.

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A 20-year-old man was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Chippewa County.

Lindsey Hatfield, from Brimley, was charged on Aug. 31, 2017, for the death of 66-year-old John Hanover.

On August 19, Hatfield and Hanover got in a fight in downtown Sault Ste. Marie and Hatfield hit Hanover in the face.

Hanover fell backward, was unable to slow himself down and hit his head on the cement.

Hanover suffered serious injuries and later died.

Hatfield was convicted Thursday by a jury in the Chippewa County Circuit Court.

The conviction carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

Hatfield's sentencing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on March 29.
