      Clerk jumped in gas station robbery

      A gas station clerk was jumped in a strong armed robbery at the Benzonia Timberline Shell Station late Friday night

      A gas station clerk was jumped in a strong armed robbery at the Benzonia Timberline Shell Station late Friday night.

      According to the Benzie County Sheriff's Office, the clerk, who was alone, had locked up the store and was walking to his car when he was jumped from behind.

      The clerk told deputies he was hit twice with an unknown object and told to get on the ground.

      The victim observed the suspect get into the passenger side of a yellow or light colored SUV parked on the south side of the building. Officials believe the suspect traveled south on US-31 from the store. He was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of money from the store.

      The suspect was described as a black male, 6 foot tall with a "stocky" build. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

      Information is limited at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
