Clouds give ground to lots of weekend sun

The National Cherry Festival kicks off in Traverse City. The weather looks to cooperate this weekend over all of Northern Michigan.

We head into our final weekend of June with the weather shaping up nicely with comfortable conditions.

Overall, this past week has been muggy with occasional showers and storms. We saw another round of that Thursday with Rudyard in Chippewa County getting 3.56" of rain along with dime size hail. In southern Michigan, DTE Energy at one time had 110,000 customers without power as storms slammed those areas along with some flooding.

Here in the north of Michigan, clouds along with showers/thunderstorms Friday will give way to increasing sunshine Saturday. We will start Saturday a bit cloudy with a few lingering showers, but with time, a dry northerly wind will eat away at the clouds with sunshine breaking through from north to south during the day. High pressure will build in for Sunday/Monday setting up a fantastic stretch of weather with highs in the 70's along with sunshine and low humidity.
