Starting on Tuesday, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Katmai Bay will be breaking ice on the St. Marys River.

Starting on Tuesday, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Katmai Bay will be breaking ice on the St. Marys River. This is in preparation for a tank vessel transit.

The Coast Guard says ice breaking operations will extend from Sault Ste. Marie to Detour Reef Light via the Middle Neebish Channel.

Ice breaking is expected to continue through the rest of the week.

Anglers and those with ATVs, snowmobiles and other people who use the ice should avoid areas near the shipping channels.
