Coast Guard proposes to remove lenses for LED lanterns in lighthouse
BENZIE COUNTY, Mi. (WPBN/WGTU) -- The United States Coast Guard is proposing to remove lenses in a northern Michigan lighthouse.
Right now, the lenses in the Frankfort North Breakwater Light are Fresnel classical lenses.
The coast guards wants to put in LED lanterns.
They say LED lights are more dependable and energy efficient.
They want to remove the current lenses and display them in local museums. The coast guard is asking for public input on the possible switch.
