Commission delays decision on festivals

City Commissioners approved a moratorium on the festival decision Monday night.

Traverse City Commissioners delayed making a decision on limiting the amount of festivals allowed in the Open Space.

Commissioners approved the moratorium Monday night. They will wait until a new commission is seated in December to make a final decision.

The moratorium allows the three festivals that have already applied for the space to start planning. Taste of Traverse, Tall Ship Fest and Paella in the Park will get their requested weekends.

Cherry Festival and Film Festival will also go on as planned.

The issue of "festival fatigue" arose in September, when a Traverse City resident requested to host "The Quiet Festival". On the application, he indicated that no one would be attending.
