The former pastor convicted of murdering Rebekah Gay was found dead in his prison cell early Wednesday morning.
According to the Department of Corrections, John White was pronounced dead around 4:30 a.m. of what an investigation shows as asphyxiation by suicide.
White was sentenced to 85 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of Rebekah Gay in October of 2012.
Police said White, a pastor at Christ Community Fellowship outside of Mt. Pleasant, confessed to killing the young mother as a part of a sexual fantasy. He then dumped her body in the woods before going to her home and babysitting her sleeping three-year-old son.
White was being held at the Michigan Reformatory in Ionia.
