Crews battling fire in Traverse City

Crews are on the scene of a fire on Keystone Road in Traverse City.

Crews were on the scene of a fire on Keystone Road in Traverse City Friday afternoon.

Fire crews received the call around 2:30 p.m. to a pole barn on the corner of S Keystone Road and W River Road (where Keystone turns into Beitner Road).

The barn stored a truck and all of the equipment for Read Tree Service Incorporated, and was fully engulfed by the time fire crews arrived.

Firefighters reported small explosions, but do not know their cause at this time. It took about 15-20 minutes to put out the flames, and about an hour to extinguish hot spots along the walls and ceiling.

"I know that the breakers into the garage that ran the barn were all operational and open - I've gotta look for the ones in the barn yet," said Chief Carroll of the Blair Twp. Fire Department. "And then there is a wood stove that we're going to look at, there's some other equipment, battery operated equipment."

Grand Traverse Rural Station #4, Grand Traverse Metro Tanker #12, and Blair Township Fire Departments all responded to the fire.

The structure was a total loss. No one was hurt in the fire.

The cause is still under investigation at this time.
