Crews battling house fire north of Buckley

The calls went out around 4 p.m. to the home on Bott Road.

Crews are investigating what they called a "suspicious fire" north of Buckley Tuesday afternoon.

The calls went out around 3:35 p.m. to the home on Miller Road near Bott Road in Grant Township.

While flames are visible, crews say the fire is under control.

Crews also report that everyone got out of the home safely. The owner of the home, a 57-year-old woman was pulled from the burning building. She was taken to Munson and is in critical condition.

Crews had to stop fighting the fire for a short period of time because a power line went down. Consumers Energy came and shut off power in the immediate area so crews could continue working.

Officers say they were at the same home the day before with officials from the State Agriculture Department investigating a report of dead animals. When they arrived, they found six dead horses.

"We think that that's related in some way to the fire," said Sheriff Tom Bensley, of Grand Traverse County. "However, we don't have all the answers at this point. The cause of the fire, the cause of the death of the horses, at this time is under investigation."
