Cyclists gear up for the Tour de TART

Tour de TART raises money for the upkeep of the TART trail that runs throughout Northern Michigan.

Hundreds of cyclists took off Friday night for the 14th annual â??Tour de TARTâ??, a huge fundraiser for the TART trail that runs throughout Northern Michigan.

More than 600 bikers of all ages arrived in downtown Traverse City and hit the trail Friday evening. They ride all the way to Suttons Bay.

Riders were able to enjoy two food stops along the 17 mile paved trail with music, food and root beer floats in the park in Suttons Bay.

â??We sold out yesterday afternoon so that's very exciting and the riders will learn how easy it is to go from Traverse City to Suttons Bay without having to worry about biking both ways," said Interim Marketing and Outreach Director Hattie Christie. "We just hope that they enjoy themselves at the end with great food and beautiful scenery."

All cyclists were able to catch a complimentary bus ride back to Traverse City with their bike after the fun!

All proceeds of the event will help fund the tart trails maintenance and upkeep.
