      Death investigation at the Antrim County Jail

      Corrections Officers found Darren McWatters hanging from cell bars by a sheet, around 11pm Saturday.

      An investigation is underway at the Antrim County jail after a teenaged inmate committed suicide.

      Corrections Officers found Darren McWatters hanging from cell bars by a sheet, around 11pm Saturday. McWatters, 17, was the only inmate in the cell at the time. Officers last had contact with McWatters at 10:17pm.

      Corrections Officers started CPR and an ambulance was called. McWatters was pronounced dead at the jail by medical examiner Dr. Dewey Benson.

      Currently the Michigan State Police is investigating the incident. Antrim County Sheriffs?? Office will be conducting an internal review concerning the incident as it relates to protocol and policies of the jail.

      McWatters, of Jordan Township, was being held at the Antrim County Jail on a $10,000.00/10% bond in District Court for resisting and obstructing officers.
