A preliminary trial was held on Tuesday for a man facing murder and child abuse charges in Presque Isle County.
Joshua Tough, 18, is accused of killing a 3-week-old male infant from Bismarck Township.
While in court, Tough told investigators that the baby's mother, Kirsten Richardson, was not in the room when the incident happened and that it was an accident.
Presque Isle County Detectives say that the more they interviewed Tough, the more his story changed.
"(Tough) Apparently tripped over something. And, at first he said he just dropped the baby," says Detective Joseph Mulka. "Then after interviewing him, I say I don't think that's possible for you just to dropped. Then he kind of gave a shoving motion where the baby had fallen and hit the rail of the crib."
The baby's mother, Kirsten Richardson, is charged with 2nd degree child abuse. Her trial date has not yet been set.
