Deputies searching for man and children near Sleeping Bear Dunes
Sheriff's deputies are searching for a 50-year-old Orchard Lake man and his three children near Sleeping Bear Dunes in Glen Haven.
Deputies say they did find a car, a silver Mercedes, that belonged to the missing man near at dune trail close to the Maritime Museum in Glen Haven early this morning.
The Sheriff said the children, two girls, ages 14 and 10 and a boy, age nine are believed to be with their father.
Investigators originally thought the man was from Emmet County but now say the man and his family were just visiting friends in the area over the weekend.
The Emmet County Sheriff says the wife of the missing man made a domestic abuse call from her cell phone to Emmet County Central Dispatch at 10:35 am Sunday morning.
A statewide domestic assault warrant has been issued for the father.
A canine unit has been brought in to help in the search on the ground while a Coast Guard helicopter is searching from the air. The search has been expanded to now include Empire and Glen Arbor.
The Leelanau County Sheriff's Department, Sleeping Bear Dunes Park Rangers and Michigan State police are all involved in the search.
