Detroit man arrested in Montcalm County for fleeing from deputies
A 54-year-old man, from Detroit, was arrested Wednesday night for running away from deputies after hitting a person in Reynolds Township.
The suspect is arrested for fleeing and eluding as well as an outstanding warrant from a probation violation out of Wayne County.
According to the Montcalm County Sheriff's department, the deputy from Howard City and staff from Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services reported to a subject slumped over in his vehicle.
The suspect was parked in Bethel Lutheran Church parking lot located in the 18000 block of West Howard City, Edmore Road.
Medical staff tried to speak with the suspect but he drove away. When leaving the parking lot, the suspect's vehicle hit a member of the medical staff. The medic was not injured.
The deputy searched for the suspect's 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup. It was then located on Almy Rd. near Amy School Rd.
The deputy tried to stop the suspect but then he fled. The chase went through the side roads of Reynolds Township where the suspect reached 85 mph as well as ignoring stop signs.
The chase ended when the suspect pulled over on the ramp northbound U.S. 131 at M-82.
The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in the 64B District Court.
