Downstate police request public's help to locate hit and run driver
The Auburn Hills Police Department needs the help of the public for tips that may lead to the location and identity of the driver of a fatal hit and run crash on Saturday, June 28.
The Police Department say based on the time of day and direction of travel of this vehicle, there is potential that the driver and vehicle may be outside the southeast Michigan area.
Ernest Carter, 55 of Belleville, was killed in the crash around 4:45 a.m. on northbound I-75 at Walton Blvd. Carter was driving a semi-truck with a trailer. He pulled off on the right shoulder to check the truck's tail lights.
While standing alongside the trailer, near the fog line, Carter was hit and killed by a vehicle. The driver of the car left the scene without stopping to report the incident.
According to the Police Department, evidence that was collected at the scene of the crash, shows the suspect's vehicle is a silver 2013 Ford Focus Titanium edition.
The Ford Focus was damaged on the front passenger side grill and passenger side mirror.
Investigators are being active in the search but have not been able to gain any substantial leads in the case. Anyone with information related to the crash is asked to call the Auburn Hills Police Department at (248) 370-9444.
