A woman crashed her vehicle into the front of Emmet Automotive Supply store in Petoskey on Wednesday morning. The driver told witnesses that she blacked out, causing the crash.
Resort Bear Creek Fire Department and the Michigan State Police responded to the crash around 8 a.m. A woman was driving a Jeep on US 31 when she crashed into a utility pole. After crashing into the utility pole, the woman ran into the Emmet Automotive Supply Store.
Four employees were in the building at the time, but no one was injured.
"I was on the phone talking to a customer, I heard a very loud crash," says Emmet Automotive employee, Mike Zednicek. "Which was the point she went through the telephone pole and next thing I looked up there was product glass and wood stuff just flying past me and I dropped the phone and ran."
Eye witnesses say that they saw a woman walk out of the green Jeep. As a precautionary measure, the driver was taken to McLaren Hospital in Petoskey.
Eye witnesses also say that the woman appeared to be in her 40's.
According to the Michigan State Police, power lines were down across US-31.
The MSP also say that it appears that a medical condition of the driver was a factor in the accident.
