Driver leads deputies on chase after allegedly assaulting girlfriend, stealing her car
A 34-year-old Interlochen man was arrested Monday after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and stealing her car before leading deputies on a chase.
According to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a "be on the lookout" call for a man operating a white Mazda Protege who had allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and stolen her car. Deputies advised that the man may now be in Grand Traverse County.
Deputies found the car on US-31 south near South Airport Rd. in Garfield Township and attempted to stop the car.
A chase started south on US-31 to Chums Corner then west on US-31 towards Interlochen.
Eventually, a deputy used a tire deflation device, making three tires on the Protege go flat and forcing the car to finally come to a stop near Ellis Lake Rd. in Green Lake Township.
The suspect was arrested for fleeing and eluding. Charges are expected in Benzie County as well.
No one was injured in the chase.
