Driver of stolen vehicle steals gas, leads deputies on short chase
A 28-year-old Mancelona man was arrested after deputies said he stole a car in Charlevoix County, stole gas in Elk Rapids then led police on a short chase in Grand Traverse County.
According to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office, deputies received information from Charlevoix County deputies that a Jeep Cherokee was stolen in Charlevoix. A few minutes later, deputies received information that the driver of the stolen Jeep stole gas from an Elk Rapids gas station and was seen southbound on U.S. 31.
Later, a deputy spotted the car on U.S. 31 near Three Mile Road in East Bay Township. After a short chase, the suspect left the car in a yard on Avenue E.
A police dog was tracking the suspect when deputies saw him near the intersection of Three Mile Road and Pine Grove Avenue. He was then arrested.
The suspect is currently being held at the Grand Traverse County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, driving under the influence, possession of a stolen car, and driving with a suspended license.
