Drunk driver crashes into fire truck on scene of another drunk driving crash
Two drunk drivers caused serious problems in Traverse City Thursday morning with one driver hitting a light pole, the other hitting a fire truck at the scene of the first crash.
Police say around midnight a 29-year-old Traverse City man was driving west on the Grandview Parkway near Cass Street when he lost control and hit a power pole. The driver told police he had been drinking. The man's blood alcohol content was .18 and he was arrested for drunk driving.
A Traverse City fire truck was called to the scene to block one lane of traffic on the Grandview Parkway while power crews repaired the damage from the crash. The fire engine had its lights activated and traffic cones were put in place to block the lane.
Around 1:00 a.m. while Traverse City Light and Power was trying to repair the power pole, a second drunk driver crashed into the back of the fire truck.
The driver of the second vehicle was a 51-year-old Traverse City woman who told investigators she didn't see the fire truck blocking the lane. Her blood alcohol content was .189 and she was also arrested for drunk driving.
Both drunk drivers were treated for minor injuries at the scene and taken to the Grand Traverse County Jail.
A Traverse City Fire Fighter was on the fire truck when the collision occurred, he was not injured.
