Elderly woman has purse stolen, credit cards used at Walmart
The Roscommon County Sheriff's Office is looking for a suspect who reportedly stole a senior citizen's purse from the Walmart in Houghton Lake.
According to the Sheriff's Department, the incident happened on Tuesday around 11 a.m. when a senior citizen was shopping at Walmart and had her purse stolen from a motorized wheelchair assist vehicle.
The 91-year-old victim told deputies that she entered the store, placed her purse in the basket but discovered the vehicle was not working. She moved to another vehicle but forgot to move her purse.
When the woman went to pay for her items, she realized her purse was gone. By the time she and Walmart employees could check where she left it, the purse was gone.
Deputies later discovered that a woman entered the store and took the purse. The woman then used the victim's credit cards to make purchases at the Walmart. Surveillance footage captured the woman shopping with a small child.
In addition to the credit cards, the victim reported to deputies that she also had cash and jewelry in her purse and that the loss is "quite substantial."
