An Emmet County man is being charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl at his home in February.
According to court documents, the girl was visiting Melvin Kiogima II with her family when, some time after midnight, she woke up to Kiogima sexually assaulting her. Documents say she pretended to be asleep while he continued to assault her.
Court documents show the next morning, Kiogima apologized and begged her not to tell her mother. The girl did tell her mother, who immediately reported it to police.
Through the use of DNA tests, Michigan State Police were able to match the DNA taken from the girl's clothes to the defendants DNA, court documents show.
He is being charged with 2 counts of criminal sexual conduct, third degree and one count of criminal sexual conduct second degree.
