Empire celebrates 40th annual Anchor Day
EMPIRE, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU)-- Empire's Anchor Day Celebration was held Saturday.
Every year, people dress up and go downtown to honor the town's historic day.
One of the events for the day was the annual Lions Club Chicken Dinner hosted by the Empire Lions Club.
The dinner has been happening during the Anchor Day festival for the last 50 years.
Organizers say the community looks forward to it every year.
"Knowing that the money is going to go towards good projects, especially for local people, but seeing all of the people coming in, they look forward to it and they know that we are going to have it and we know that they are going to come and it's just a lot of fun," said dinner organizer BIll Freeman. " It's nice of the community to do things like that because they do support all of our events."
The money raised at the chicken dinner goes towards supporting local projects like school's sports teams and even national disaster efforts.
