      Employee-owned company takes home top honors

      50 years after it was founded, an employee-owned manufacturing firm in Kalkaska took home the 2013 Hagerty Small Business of the Year award. The award, in it's 9th year, is presented annually by the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce.

      50 years after it was founded, an employee-owned manufacturing firm in Kalkaska took home the 2013 Hagerty Small Business of the Year award. The award, in it's 9th year, is presented annually by the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce. In the past five decades, Kalkaska Screw Products has grown into a workplace with about 60 employees, who not only work there, they also own the company. In 2012, the employees bought the company, which manufactures highly engineered machining components According to the judges, Kalkaska Screw Products has almost doubled its annual sales over the past three years, and has a long history of community service in the Kalkaska area.
