Community fires back at info panel for Kalamazoo leak.
Wed, 25 Jun 2014 02:35:02 GMT — The Petoskey High School auditorium was packed Tuesday night with upset locals that had questions about the Enbridge Energy Partners pipeline, known as ??Line 5,?? that runs underneath the Mackinac Bridge.Residents voiced their opinions to Brad Shamla the Vice President of North American Operations at Enbridge Energy and the 12 other represented organizations that oversee and regulate Line 5.Concern has been growing about the Line 5 since an oil pipeline owned by Enbridge leaked nearly 800,000 gallons into the Kalamazoo River in 2010.Similar in age to the Kalamazoo pipeline, Line 5 carries nearly 22-million gallons of oil and natural gas daily underneath the great lakes.Shamla says since the leak in Kalamazoo happened they have ramped up their inspection efforts.According to Shamla, the last time Line 5 received an inspection was in 2012 and plans on having another inspection this year.
