Eric Knysz taken off life support

Eric Knysz has been taken off life support.

The man convicted of murdering Michigan State Police trooper Paul Butterfield last fall was taken off life support and died, WOOD-TV is reporting.

Knysz was on life support at Allegiance Health Hospital in Jackson after hanging himself with a bed sheet in his cell.

WOOD-TV reports he was removed from life support around 10:30 a.m. Thursday. He was declared brain dead on Tuesday.

Knysz was on life support while doctors performed tests to see if his organs could be donated. He was a registered organ donor.

WOOD-TV is reporting Knysz's family said his organs were harvested after he died Thursday.

He was serving a life sentence for the murder of Trooper Butterfield.
